Ink Printing

Personalised wrapping paper

Giving or receiving a beautifully wrapped gift is such a joy! A few years ago, when my children were young, we created the usual garishly bright potato print paper which added a lot of fun to our present giving. As they grew older I became the only one who still thought it was cute, so decided to try a more refined approach.

Wrapping paper for Christmas

Wrapping paper for Christmas seemed like a great place to start making my own wrapping that could be recycled. It’s important to me that, unlike most shop bought wrapping paper, anything I create can be recycled.  Better still, I really wanted to reuse items I already had and not buy anything new. Hunting through the children’s old craft boxes I found some unused rolls of white paper which I could repurpose. I then cut a Christmas tree into an old sponge and I was set. Little green sponge printed trees adorned our presents that year.

This year I decided to try something even easier, brown paper, a paintbrush and some white paint was all I needed. I sourced some plastic free brown paper, making it recyclable, and simply painted different sized white dots on to the paper. When it had dried I thought a little more sparkle would be nice for Christmas, so added little silver dots.

Wrapping our presents with either plain, red or green twine added a splash of colour and pretty soon our pretty packages started to stack up.

How can you make easy homemade wrapping paper?

All you need is paper, paint or ink, paintbrush or something to print. The options and variations are endless! My next project is to experiment with vegetable prints for more personalised wrapping paper for birthdays and other occasions. I’ll keep you posted…
